About the Conference

The International Conference on Climate Change and Ecosystem Restoration (ICCCER-2024) is a landmark event dedicated to addressing the critical need for concerted action in climate change mitigation and landscape restoration. With a special emphasis on the Great Rift Valley’s unique and biodiverse landscapes, this conference aims to create a robust platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among a diverse array of stakeholders. These include government entities, private sector leaders, academic experts, civil society organizations, and the general public. The conference is organized by The Restoration Alliance in collaboration with University of Eldoret and like-minded organizations.

It is anticipated that the conference proceedings will encompass practical, theoretical framework and policy aspects of climate change and ecosystem restoration. Besides citizen and stakeholder engagement, the conference proceedings are expected to address sustainability concerns towards ecosystem restoration, conservation, mitigation and adaptation of climate change. 

Our Objectives

The conference will serve as a convergence point for stakeholders across various sectors, encouraging dialogue and the formation of strategic partnerships. By leveraging the strengths and expertise of government, private entities, academia, and civil society, the event aims to foster synergies that enhance conservation and restoration efforts.

Promote collaborative research initiatives and innovative solutions to advance landscape restoration and address climate change challenges effectively.

ICCCER 2024 focuses on cross disciplinary themes on climate change, ecosystem conservation, adaptation and sustainability efforts towards a circular economy in landscape restoration. The sub themes are geared to sustainability in mitigation and adaptation of climate change and include but are not limited to;

  1. Restoration of landscapes (Restoration financing; Engagement of local actors; diversity and inclusion, advocacy and awareness)
  2. Emerging developments in STEM towards sustainability in mitigation and adaptation to climate change. 
  3. Ecosystem, biodiversity  and natural resource management. 
  4. Cross cutting themes including socio-economic aspects, sustainable agriculture, food security, health and other climate smart practices.

Through the incorporation of insights from diverse sectors, the conference will shape policies and set priorities that emphasize integrated approaches to landscape restoration and climate change adaptation. This will ensure that policy frameworks are reflective of the needs and opportunities within the Great Rift Valley.

A key focus will be to highlight the ecological and socio-economic significance of the Great Rift Valley, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities inherent in landscape restoration. The conference will promote a deeper understanding of these dynamics among stakeholders and the wider public.

The conference will appeal to donors, investors, and partners to channel resources towards initiatives that drive sustainable development and environmental conservation in the Great Rift Valley. This will include financial support, technical expertise, and community engagement.

Plenary Sessions
The conference will feature renowned keynote speakers and experts in climate science, ecology, and sustainable development, who will discuss global trends and their regional implications. These sessions will provide a strategic overview of the challenges and opportunities in landscape restoration.
Panel Discussions

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The conference is expected to motivate stakeholders to take decisive action in addressing climate change and ecosystem restoration. By presenting innovative solutions and fostering collaborative discussions, we aim to drive significant progress and commitment. Some of the specific outcomes include,  but not limited to:

New partnerships and collaborative projects among stakeholders will be launched, enhancing landscape restoration efforts and driving collective impact.

The conference aims to develop actionable policy recommendations for government and policymakers, promoting the integration of sustainable practices into national and regional agendas. 

Influencing policy decisions and advocacy efforts through unified and well-informed positions presented by a diverse group of stakeholders.

By raising public awareness and involvement in climate action, the conference will inspire communities to participate actively in environmental stewardship, fostering a culture of sustainability, and ownership.

The event is expected to attract financial and technical support from donors and investors towards restoration of the ecosystems around the Greater Rift Valley.

Establish a research center and an innovation hub at Moi University, focused on climate change solutions on mitigation and adaptation.
